Axis

Where did excess cut our access to axis?
Swirling around ourselves
As if center was a fleshy body
that is just waiting to decay.
But if it's not ours, whose life do we circle?
Can I ever own a life?
Or am I being lived by the countless relationships
that move through me every minute reality?
What are we gravitating around,
when earth pulls us closer, and sun pulls her?
Leaning into the safe tuck that keeps us in orbit.
Why fighting against our belonging to the bigger forces
when all our ancestors danced around the same fire?
Maybe life doesn't need a mine or yours
to deserve our marveling gaze and deep devotion.
Maybe we got the whole thing about pronouns wrong.
Maybe we should start listening all over.
To the stones and waterfalls, to the rivers and each other.
